Icon Name Description Requires
Cynodont Burrowing Burrowing Thrinaxodon lived in burrows that also gave them easy access to their prey—mostly insects and other small herbivores. This increased shelter may have helped them to survive the Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction Event. Rank 37
Cynodont Whiskers Whiskers Pitting in the skulls of Thrinaxodon indicates that it may have had whiskers. These whiskers would have helped Thrinaxodon to navigate at night and underground, making it a stealthy nocturnal predator. Rank 38

Achievements[]

Icon Name Description Requires
Achievement Messy Eater Messy Eater Unlike dinosaurs, Thrinaxodon and other proto-mammals had a secondary palate, allowing them to eat and breathe at the same time. This allowed Thrinaxodon to chew its food instead of swallowing it whole, making digestion more efficient. 75 Cynodont
Achievement Different Strokes For Different Yolks Different Strokes For Different Yolks Most if not all prehistoric cynodonts, like Thrinaxodon, would have laid eggs. In the modern day, only one group of mammals continues to lay eggs instead of birthing live young: the monotremes, which include the platypus and the echidna. 200 Cynodont

Trivia[]

  • Cynodonts are not dinosaurs. In fact, they are synapsids, like mammals. Mammals are in fact a type of cynodont. They are thus the least-related of animals in Mesozoic Valley to dinosaurs, as all the other animals are at least sauropsids.
  • One of the cynodont burrows looks the same as the nest of archaeopteryx.
