Entropy is the first currency in the game, and is used to power biological evolution and grow from species to species. It can be generated from the very start of the game, simply by tapping on the background of any play area. Entropy allows you to buy Upgrades, Trophy Upgrades, and Generators, most related to life (the purchasable items related to civilization are bought with 
Ideas). Over time, as you create new life forms (Generators such as DNA and Amino Acids) and Upgrades, more Entropy will be generated both passively from your purchases and from more tapping.
Other forms of currency, like 
Darwinium, can help out a lot when you're low on Entropy. They can trigger Quantum Triggers which can give you extra Entropy, at the cost of 4 Darwinium, and a Time Flux for 10 Darwinium.
