The Oort Cloud is the 33rd Celestial Body and the 4th Oort Cloud Object obtained in The Beyond Bubble Universe, which can generate Stardust. (Unlocked at Rank 15, branching off of Hills Cloud)

In-Game Description[]

"The Oort Cloud is a field of small icy celestial objects thought to exist at the far reaches of the solar system. It surrounds the bubble of the heliosphere, and is the bridge between our solar system and interstellar space."

Traits[]

Common[]

  • Cosmographic Boundary (Speed):

"Little is known for certain about the outermost reaches of our solar system. Beyond the heliopause, the Sun’s gravity is no longer the dominant force. Instead, other stars host their own solar systems throughout the Milky Way."

  • Comet Storm (Payout):

"The star Gliese 710 is predicted to pass near the Sun within the next 10 million years. The resulting shakeup in the Oort Cloud could lead to comet showers lasting millions of years and frequent collisions between comets and planets."

Rare[]

  • Spherical Shell (Payout):

"The Asteroid Belt, the Kuiper Belt, and the ecliptic that the planets follow around the Sun are all shaped like a flat disk. The Oort Cloud, on the other hand, is a large spherical shape surrounding the whole solar system."

Epic[]

  • Speed of Light (Speed):

"The speed of light is the rate at which light and all massless particles travel through a vacuum. While it can seem instantaneous from up close, over long distances this speed limit becomes very noticeable. The theory of relativity relates to the speed of light."

  • Cosmic Gravity (Payout):

"Gravity is one of the fundamental forces and key to understanding how the universe works. Using Newton’s principles, astronomers can explain how stars and planets form, predict their mass and motion, and infer the existence of dark matter."

  • Goldilocks Zone (Discount):

"The Goldilocks Zone, also called the Habitable Zone, is the region around a star with conditions necessary for a planet that can sustain life. Planets like Earth, with surface water and breathable atmospheres, might be found in these zones in other systems."

Constellations[]

  • Scorpio (1.5x Speed):

"One of the brightest constellations in the sky, Scorpio represents a scorpion. It includes the red star Antares, sometimes called the “heart of the scorpion” because of its placement and color."

  • Aquarius (2x Speed):

"The constellation Aquarius represents a water seller carrying a jug. Three meteor showers originate here, including the Eta Aquariids, which are associated with Halley’s Comet. Aquarius is large and encompasses 12 exoplanet systems."

Astronomy Mission[]

The Oort Cloud's Astronomy Mission is the region between star systems, the Interstellar Medium.

Structure[]

The Oort Cloud is structured and divided into two parts, the inner Oort Cloud (Hills Cloud), and the outer Oort Cloud. Of these two, one is present in the game. This includes the Hills Cloud. It is not visible in the Space Garden.

Interstellar Medium[]

"The interstellar medium is made up of cosmic dust, cosmic rays, and clouds of molecules and gases. This fills the space between planets and other celestial bodies."

Achievements[]

Achievement Oort Cloud
  • Oort and Proud (Rank 3):

"Jan Oort was one of the foremost astronomers of the 20th century. His discoveries about the Milky Way and radio astronomy were groundbreaking. The Oort Cloud, asteroid 1691 Oort, and the Oort constant are all named after him."

  • Across the Universe (Rank 6):

"The Oort Cloud is extremely large. Starting around 2,000 AU from the Sun and extending to 50,000 AU, the Oort Cloud is up to 7.5 trillion km wide."
