Sirius is the 3rd Interstellar Object and the 3rd Main Sequence Star obtained in The Beyond Bubble Universe, which can generate Stardust. (Unlocked at Rank 18, branching off of Tau Ceti)

In-Game Description[]

"Sirius is a pair of oddball stars. Sirius A is blue—the brightest, most massive, and rarest star type in the main sequence. Sirius B was born a blue star but is now a white dwarf, a compact star that spent its hydrogen fuel and left the main sequence long ago."

Traits[]

Common[]

  • Massively Bright (Speed):

"Luminosity measures how much energy a star radiates. Sirius A is 24.5 times brighter than the Sun, but some stars kick out a million times more energy. In main sequence stars, if you know a star’s luminosity, you know its mass: brighter means more matter."

  • Godzilla of Magnitude (Payout):

"Sirius A isn’t really the sky’s brightest star. It only looks that way because it’s close—8.6 light-years away. Absolute magnitude, or intrinsic luminosity, compares the true radiance of stars at a set distance. Godzilla, a star in the Sunburst Galaxy, tops that chart."

Rare[]

  • Main Sequence (Payout):

"Protostars enter the main sequence as newborn stars when heat and pressure in the hydrogen core ignite nuclear fusion. Their mass—how much matter they contain—dictates their size, color and temperature, brightness, lifespan, and the manner of their old age and death."

Epic[]

  • Cosmology (Speed):

"The scientific study of the universe asks the very biggest questions. How did it form? What came before? How does it work? Is it infinite? Will it die? All the pieces we observe—comets, moons, planets, stars, galaxies, nebulae, and even voids—provide some answers."

  • Dark Matter (Payout):

"Dark matter acts like a superhero. It’s everywhere in space and yet invisible. Its gravity distorts huge objects that we can see. It can even buttress a dwarf galaxy against annihilation by a giant one. The duo of dark matter and dark energy make up 95% of the universe."

  • Dark Energy (Discount):

"Little is known about dark energy, except that it’s repulsive. Opposing gravity, this strange force causes matter to scatter rather than attract, pushing our universe to expand faster and faster. Dark energy makes up 68% of the universe’s mass-energy density."

Constellations[]

  • Eridanus (1.5x Speed):

"Eridanus, The River, is the longest constellation in the sky. It starts near Rigel and twists and turns all the way to its brightest star, Achernar (“River’s End” in Arabic). It was named after Eridu, an early Sumerian city in the marshes of what is now southern Iraq."

  • Ursa Major (2x Speed):

"Ursa Major, the “Great Bear,” is the largest constellation in the Northern Hemisphere, rotating nightly around Polaris, the North Star. The seven stars of the Big Dipper form its tail and back. Merak and Dubhe point the way to Polaris in the Little Dipper."

System Components[]

Star[]

The Sirius star system (α Canis Majoris) is made up of two stars (binary star system), Sirius A, and Sirius B. Of these only Sirius A is present in the game. This is a main sequence star of spectral type A0mA1 Va, while Sirius B is a white dwarf of spectral type DA2. This star system has the closest blue star and white dwarf to the Sun. It is also the brightest star in the night sky. It is located in the southern constellation Canis Major.

Achievements[]

Achievement Sirius
  • Dead White Dwarf (Rank 3):

"Once a superhot blue powerhouse with the mass of five Suns, Sirius B became a white dwarf after nuclear fusion stopped. Without explosive energy pushing out, gravity crunched the star into a ball smaller than Earth. Its residual warmth is very slowly radiating away."

  • From Dog Star to South Star (Rank 6):

"Sirius is in Canis Major, the “Big Dog” constellation. Polynesians have long relied on it to navigate the Pacific. In 66,000 years, Sirius will become the South Star, a beacon above the South Pole. A North Star counterpoint, it will point the way south for travelers."
