"The one becomes the many: The first multi-cellular organism emerges."

Sponge is the 5th Life and the 1st Ocean generator obtained in the Primary Simulation's Main Tree, which can generate Entropy EntropyEntropy. Sponges, "Porifera", "Parazoa" are different names for this group of organism.

Design[]

The Sponge resembles three pink tube sponges, very likely demosponges. These sponges could possibly represent the stovepipe sponge, the giant barrel sponge, or possibly other pink species of sponges. They are the first generator in the Ocean habitat, and the only one that doesn't move. Bubbles come out of them and dozens of them are spread out across the rocks on the ocean floor. When clicked on, it makes a squishy noise.

Description[]

"The world's first multi-cellular organism, sponges are stationary filter feeders. They are a product of multiple eukaryotic cells coming together."

Upgrades[]

Sponge has 4 upgrades, increasing the generator efficiency with a total x12 multiplier.

Icon Name Description Cost Efficiency Requires
Coral Coral is a marine invertebrate with a hard calcium-carbonate exoskeleton. Colonies of corals that grow together can create reefs, diverse underwater ecosystems that provide a home for many sea creatures. EntropyEntropy 40,000 100% 6 Sponge
Muscles Muscles are fibrous tissue in an animal's body with the ability to contract. This action enables the muscles to move, in turn moving the bones that are attached to them. EntropyEntropy 100,000 100% Tissue
Oscula As sponges gain nutrients by letting water pass through them, they also need a way to excrete what’s left over. The oscula is a hole where this waste water passes out of the sponge when it’s done feeding. EntropyEntropy 3.57e8 50% Coral

Hermaphroditism Organisms with hermaphroditism have either a complete or partial set of both male and female reproductive systems. Animals with hermaphroditism include clown fish, earthworms, and snails. EntropyEntropy 3.87e11 100% Asexual Reproduction

Achievements[]

Icon Name Description Requires
Squishy Sponges do not have nervous, digestive, or circulatory systems. Instead most rely on maintaining a constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food and oxygen and to remove wastes. 25 Sponge
Hospitable Sponges can provide a home for up to 16,000 other creatures while they are alive. 50 Sponge
Sponge Bath There are about 5,000 species of sea sponges found worldwide. 100 Sponge
Startling Sponge Stats The smallest sea sponges are one inch long. The largest can grow to four feet tall. 150 Sponge
I'm Running Out of Sponge Puns Many sponges are toxic to eat. They have few natural predators because of this. 250 Sponge

Trivia[]

  • In the game, Coral is an upgrade for sponges, however, in real life, they are classified as cnidarians rather than sponges, relatives of the Jellyfish.
